Finding inspiration

My main inspiration for my poster were the following movie posters.

Untitled Horror Movie

What I liked about this poster is someone holding a phone. The screen is broken and the hand holding is covered in blood. This movie is a comedy though therefore it has a pink background and all the characters faces on the phone have a filter over each of them. All these filters are vibrant colours that stand out. My movie is not a comedy though so I didn't want to have any vibrant colours on or a pink background. I chose to have a photograph of a woods at night time. This fits the tone of my movie better and the codes and conventions of a horror movie.

Unfriend

On this poster, they have done a smiliar thing to the previous movie poster. It is a picture of a phone screen. There is no hand holding this one, it is bigger though and covers the whole screen. The title is also on the phone screen along with the cast and crew. There is also a crack on one of the characters, this doesn't look like a usual cracked phone screen, it looks similar to a gunshot. This creates an enigma code as it could possibly foreshadow a potential death in the movie. The tone of the movie

First draft

The following screenshot is me creating a draft of my poster. The original idea was to have someone holding a cracked phone with the missing person on it. This couldn't be the final version of my poster as you can still see the green outline around the hand and phone, also the picture on the phone isn't obvious that he is a missing person. The background is only temporary as well as I like the dark tone of it but I would prefer it do be darker and not have a kind of green tone to it.

To improve the movie poster I started creating what would be on the cracked phone screen. I found an instagram post template on https://mediamodifier.com/mockup/instagram-post-mockup-maker/4226. I added the missing person poster we used in the trailer so that it is more clear that the man on the phone screen is a missing person.

The following screenshot is the completed instagram post for the phone screen. This is a lot better as it is clearer that its a missing person and I have also added small details for if the viewer notices. You can see that the characters from the movie who go searching for their missing friend have liked the post.

I found a much better template for someone holding a phone for my actual poster, this one was better as it was a png instead of having a green screen. Therefore, there wasn't any green outlines and looks much better. I also added the missing person poster to the phone and edited it to make it fit on the screen.

Once I had completed the phone screen with the missing person poster on it, I wanted to make it look like it had a cracked screen. The cracked screen suggests a missing aspect or an inaccurate way of understanding a situation. This symbolises that the characters don't know the sheer magnitude off the situation that they are in. It could also suggest that the characters relationships are broken due to their friend going missing. I got the broken glass brush from https://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/60053-20-broken-glass-ps-brushes-abr-vol-10. This pack consisted off 20 different broken glass brushes, all I had to do was go through them all until I found the right one.

Next, I had to add the crack to the phone screen by using a brush on it

Here, I am using the curves on the right hand side to do image adjustment. This is so I could make the hand look like its actually in the woods at night time. On this screenshot, the hand looks brighter and seems out of place.

I downloaded a font from https://www.dafont.com/ called Scary Light. I think it fit well with the tone of my movie as it is a horror.

I googled what font Netflix uses so I could use it for the tag line, release date and netflix logo. I downloaded it from dafont.com.
